Simple Food, Simple Pleasures
It still amazes me sometimes how simple food can be - and how good! Last weekend I went to Mexico for my father's 70th birthday. Friday morning found me with 2 of my nephews in a small restaurant looking for some "real" Mexican food. Somehow the pasta my dad served upon my arrival Thursday night just hadn't done it for me.
For the paltry sum of 24 pesos ($2.23) I had a full breakfast of huevos rancheros and orange juice. The juice was so fresh it wasn't sqeezed until we ordered it. They didn't make the tortillas until we had placed our order either. And the meal was amazingly simple: fresh tortillas, two soft fried eggs and green sauce. Pure heaven! A basket of bread was served, which my nephews were happy to use to sop up the extra sauce and yolk, but I held off.
After all, lunch was scheduled for quesadillas in the market. More simple food and more simple pleasures!
